Professional Summary
Dr. Nicholas R. Werse serves as the Senior Director of Operations and Associate Graduate Faculty in the Baylor University Moody School of Education Professional Online Learning unit, where he provides strategic oversight for the personnel and teams focused on marketing and communications, recruitment and admissions, academic advising and student support, as well as research and writing development.
Dr. Werse’s professional expertise centers on higher education leadership, specifically for graduate professional degree programs. He played a key role collaborating with program leadership, faculty, and staff in developing a nationally recognized Research and Writing Development Center and other student support systems that contributed to Baylor’s Ed.D. in Learning and Organizational Change receiving the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) Program of the Year Award.
In recognition of his contributions to the university, Dr. Werse was voted by Baylor freshmen as one of the Top 40 Most Impactful Faculty and Staff, placing in the top 1.5% of faculty and staff during his only year of eligibility. He went on to receive the 2021 Baylor University Outstanding Staff Award.
Dr. Werse is extensively published across several interdisciplinary fields, including graduate professional education, graduate student writing development, and ethics and emerging technology, in addition to his primary field of religious studies. His research has led to numerous awards and grants, including the 2017 Oral History Institute Community Oral History Grant, 2021 Southwest Commission on Religious Studies Junior Scholar Award, 2022 Baylor University ONE-URC Research Grant (coauthored), 2022 Baylor University Teaching Exploration Grant (coauthored), and the 2022 International Writing Centers Association Research Grant (coauthored).
He holds Affiliate Faculty appointments in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Environmental Humanities program, and he regularly teaches Biblical Hebrew.
