Nicole duPlessis, Ph.D.
Senior Academic Writing Consultant Associate Graduate Faculty
Dr. Nicole duPlessis brings to the position of Graduate Coordinator a passion for writing and working with writers. She has her Ph.D. in English from Texas A&M University, where she has taught introductory and advanced writing and literature courses. Working for the EdD Research and Writing Development Center brings together Dr. duPlessis’s experience in Human Resources training and organizational development, academic publishing, and writing instruction.
Dr. duPlessis’s research focuses primarily on fantasy literature, with particular emphasis on J.R.R. Tolkien. She has written about the Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings, and also about the Hunger Games and Scholomance trilogies. She often returns to representations of home, family, and relationships, and literacy and education, theorizing their impact on the individual within society. Her current book project, under contract with McFarland Books, is a study of the theological and personal underpinnings of marriage in Middle-earth.
